Drew Brees eventually began playing flag football in high school, despite his interest in several other sports, most notably basketball. He returned to sports after suffering a serious knee injury and became a promising quarterback for his high school team. His numbers were incredible, with 50 touchdowns and 314 completed passes.

College Football Career of Drew Brees : 

Despite his high school quarterback success, Brees was not heavily recruited by colleges. Drew didn’t make his first collegiate start until his sophomore year, when coach Joe Tiller appointed him offensive captain and taught him an unconventional spread offence strategy known as “basketball on grass.”

By 2002, he had supplanted Flutie as the starter. However, the Chargers reversed their decision, making Flutie the starting quarterback once more. Brees replaced Flutie for the second time by 2003. The Chargers signed a new quarterback, Phillip Rivers, before the 2004 season.

Against Rivers, Brees defended his starting quarterback position. Drew had his best season yet in 2004, with a 65.5% passing completion rate and a 104.8 passer rating. The Chargers also won the Western Division of the American Football Conference for the first time in ten years that season.

Brees captured the coveted “triple crown” in 2011, leading the league in completion percentage, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He also broke the NFL record for most passing yards in a single season that season, with 5,084.
